Riding Lessons and Horse Training

MTM Ranch is more than just a horseback riding destination we are the start of many fine riders and horse owners. Since before the conception of the ranch, Patricia Motley has been known for teaching in many equine disciplines including English and Western riding as well as driving and mounted shooting. She excitedly looks forward to setting you on the path to success with your horse using her muscle/voice methodology. Countless men, women and children have started their careers with Patty.
During the course of beginning lessons, Ms. Motley finds it effective to give the riders different horses to ride so that they may best learn that all are different and have specific lessons to teach. As former World Champion Cowboy "girl" mounted shooter, she has great horsemanship tips to offer that will enhance your ability to ride and shoot.
Children of seven years of age are eligible for private lessons; and children of eight years and up may do private or fun group lessons. With a three student maximum, the group environment provides an opportunity for students to learn from each other's mistakes, as well as form lasting friendships. During the lessons, we perform drills and learn ground skills, such as grooming, also. We believe that children set the pace and course for the classes, allowing their true colors to shine through.
Women's lessons are catered to the way woman think. We usually start our lesson plan by heading out on the trail and getting our seat and balance. It goes by quickly and you soon begin a relationship with your first horse. Stretching and exercises on horseback help your body give in and you will just begin to ride like it is second nature.

If you have a special mount of your own that needs either training from the ground up or just some polishing off, Patty is the woman for the job. Her experience and methods will benefit any and all horses, no matter their background.
